Hello folks and a warm welcome to our “occasional” blog update for the book “Newcastle Old and New the story so far…” – so much has happened since last month as I have hit the big “5-0”, sadly not my age but the books purchased so far!! Yippee!!
As many of my friends, business colleagues, followers on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and of course these newsletters will know that for a few years I had been working on a long held dream to self-publish a school project book about Newcastle upon Tyne from 38 years ago called “Newcastle Old and New The Story So Far”. Weeell, I had 200 books printed last month and have since sold over 50 so far!!!!
I am ecstatic with the response to the book, the interest from far and wide and the support from so many people, a big massive thank you to you all!
When I say far and wide I mean it! In just two months I have had purchases from “exiled Geordies” in Bolton, Norwick and Lancashire, with one about to become an exiled Geordie as they soon emigrate to “New Zealand!!” We have had interest from people with mature relatives who want to reminisce about Tyneside as it was, but because I have printed the book in a Tahoma 12 for my dyslexic eyes it seems to be ideal for old tired eyes as well… And of course we have had quite a few brought for Father’s Day which is due soon on Sunday the 19th of June; it seems that these books have turned out to be great gifts? Brilliant, I would never have thought that 12 months ago – if it helps people to reminisce and put a smile on their face, or in turn encourage folks to explore this city of ours then that is truly a bonus!!
The book is only available direct for the time being at the special price of £20.00 + £5.00 P&P, a few specialist book stockists have showed interest and will be approached later in the year. We have specially set up a totally devoted website for the book complete with PayPal which takes most credit and debit cards at; www.newcastleoldandnew.co.uk. Books will be mailed out personally [and signed to someone special if required], jiffy wrapped in a sturdy cardboard package and signed for at your end for security. If I can help further just contact me at any of the contact numbers below; via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and also via the website above.
Another sneak look into the book…
Here is a couple of rare pics from my "Newcastle Old and New the story so far..." book, on sale now. The Royal Arcade was openned in May 1832 and is where the Swan House roundabout is today, designed and built by those two stallwarts of Newcastle, Richard Grainger and John Dobson. The design was inspired by a stylish venue in London, with the image below in its hay day you can easily Graingers ideas? However by the middle of the 20th century the Royal Arcade had become sad and neglected and the beauty had faded, as can clearly be seen in the second image [from "Ward Philipson Photo Memories"]. I think you would agree a sad loss to the city?
G’day!! Another satisfied book customer!
Nichola is heading out to pastures new, New Zealand in fact! Not only has she bought a copy for her dad for Fathers Day [don’t forget folks its June the 19th..] but has also bought a copy for herself and plans to take with her when she emergrates to New Zealand to reminise about home… thank you Nicola and so I wish you all of the success in the world on your brave new venture on the other side of the world, please keep me posted? And;
Planned Events and Talks
I have a really special talk at Remploy [curtsey of Nicola] in Newcastle at 2.00pm on Thursday the 12th of May 2016, I have been invited in to a workshop with young people who have “learning difficulties” to tell them about my personal challenges and succeeding in business, and of course my latest achievements – a true honour indeed!
Newcastle Radio had invited me back in to their studios on Thursday the 28th of April 2016 to do pre-record a contribution to a program about “a book within us”, once I know a release date I will let you know..
Incidentally if anyone is looking for a speaker please let me know, thanks.
Finally if there is any more information I can give about the book, ways to purchase, talks etc please contact me via email me on firstname.lastname@example.org or phone me direct via 07865 923716, or even below via facebook, twitter and LinkedIn addresses below, naturally I would be more than happy to help..
